For the eighth consecutive year, Parliament organized the Parliamentary Openness Week

Between September 13–20, 2025, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova hosted the Parliamentary Openness Week, an annual initiative held in the context of the International Day of Democracy, celebrated globally on September 15. Numerous visitors, MPs, and staff from the Parliamentary Secretariat took part in the activities, reports TRIBUNA.

The week began on Saturday, September 13, with the third edition of the patriotic music festival-contest “I Sing to You, Homeland and Nation.” Over 1,000 local artists of all ages, together with the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, celebrated national traditions, identity, and unity through art.

From September 15 to 19, the program continued with interactive activities for pupils and students. First-grade students from “Vasile Vasilache” Theoretical High School in Chișinău decorated eco-bags while discussing what democracy means to them.

Daily, in the Parliament’s plenary hall, the event “Democracy Hour” brought together MPs and students from high schools “Ștefan Vodă” (Vadul lui Vodă), “Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra,” “Prometeu-Prim,” “Gheorghe Asachi” (Chișinău), as well as students from Moldova State University and the Academy of Economic Studies. MPs Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei, Grigore Novac, Valeriu Muduc, Alina Dandara, Vitalie Gavrouc, and Olesea Stamate discussed the role of the legislature, democratic values, and human rights. At the end of each session, participants left messages for current and future MPs in a box of ideas and impressions placed at the Parliament Museum—most expressing support for Moldova’s European path.

Visitors also engaged in educational games and civic quizzes. The “Treasure Hunt” game was especially popular, involving creative tasks—puzzles, crosswords, and coded riddles—leading to a “treasure” made up of informative materials about Parliament.

The Comrat Territorial Information Office of Parliament organized sessions focused on youth participation in public life and decision-making, with students from “Todur Zanet” High School (Congaz), “Suleyman Demirel” Moldo-Turkish High School (Congaz), and “Grigore Vieru” High School (Chioselia Rusă).

Also during the week, students from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, guided by MP Marcela Nistor (also a professor at AMTAP) and British theatre director Scott Johnston, held a legislative theatre workshop—an activity combining dramatic art and civic education to highlight the role of Parliament and democratic participation.

Online, Parliament ran the “Democracy Dictionary” campaign throughout the week, offering simple and clear explanations of key democratic terms to the public.

The Parliamentary Openness Week concluded on Saturday, September 20, with the conference “Youth Decide the Future of the Republic of Moldova.” In the Parliament’s Europe Hall, dozens of students and representatives of state institutions discussed the role of youth in strengthening democracy, the importance of civic education, and the responsibility of the new generation to build a peaceful and prosperous future for Moldova.

Through these activities, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to open dialogue, civic engagement, and nurturing a generation of active and responsible citizens.
