Irina Vlah, president of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova,” has issued a challenge to the members of the Tofan Government — the salaries of Government members should not exceed the average salary of teaching staff.
The politician said that today is an important day, as pupils are returning to classrooms to continue their studies. “Congratulations, dear pupils, and best of luck in the new school year, because your success determines the future — not only of each of you, but of the country as a whole.
“Today, teachers are also beginning a new school year, in which, as before, they will give their very best so that pupils can find their place in life and contribute to the development of the country and humanity as a whole. I bow before you, dear teachers! The effort you make and the sacrifices you periodically endure deserve the highest admiration.
“On this important day, I want to address not only pupils and teachers, but also the Government in general, which promised to increase teachers’ salaries but has failed to keep its word. Dear members of the Cabinet of Ministers, if you have not found the money to increase teachers’ salaries, at least show solidarity with them and set your own salaries at the average level received by teaching staff! Perhaps this will motivate you to mobilize and find the money to increase teachers’ salaries more quickly!” she said.
Irina Vlah stressed that “otherwise, it is simply not fair — teachers can barely cope with their daily expenses, while you sit in comfortable chairs and receive tens of thousands of lei every month. Either there is money for everyone, or everyone tightens their belts!”
“Dear members of the Government, will you accept the challenge?” she asked.
