Ion Ceban: No Risks to Chisinau’s Water Supply Despite Lower Dniester River Flow

Ion Ceban, the mayor of the capital, said there are no risks to the water supply of Chisinau despite the decrease in the flow and discharge of the Dniester River. The water level at the Vadul lui Vodă water intake station remains at 8.3 meters, ensuring the normal operation of the system, TRIBUNA reports.

The mayor said the situation remains stable thanks to measures taken by Chisinau City Hall over the past several weeks.

“Protective works have been carried out on the Dniester River:

  • A floating pumping station has been put into operation, with the capacity to pump water from a lower level. We also built and installed new underground pipes designed to bring water closer to the water intake station and prevent the volume from decreasing.
  • A high-capacity pump was built and installed at a deeper level. It can draw water if the river level drops, and the water can likewise be delivered to the water intake station through the newly installed pipes.
  • A dam was built to reduce the flow rate and accumulate water.
  • We also installed pumps that can be activated if necessary and which were provided by the Government.

We have done everything possible, together with specialists from the City Hall and Apă-Canal Chisinau, to ensure the operation of the water intake station even if the volume of water in the Dniester decreases,” the mayor added.
