According to an analysis published by Visual Capitalist, based on international data (primarily IMF estimates), the average global inflation rate in 2025 is around 4.2%. In this context, the Republic of Moldova appears with an estimated inflation rate of approximately 7.7%, placing it 35th worldwide and significantly above the global average.
The same international comparative analysis shows that, at the European level, the Republic of Moldova is among the countries with the highest inflation. Only two states rank ahead of Moldova: Ukraine, with an estimated inflation of around 12–13%, and the Russian Federation, with roughly 9%, both countries being at war. Thus, Moldova ranks 3rd in Europe in terms of inflation in 2025, immediately after two economies severely affected by conflict.
This analysis shows that, for Moldovans, the cost of living continues to rise faster than in most countries. It is not hyperinflation, as seen in severely affected states such as Venezuela or Sudan, but neither is it a situation of stability. The consequence is constant pressure on salaries, pensions, and household savings.
While many economies have managed to bring inflation back into the 2–3% range, the Republic of Moldova remains in a critical zone, where price increases erode purchasing power month after month. The gap between official statistics and real prices on store shelves is felt directly in every household.
The study indicates an inflation rate of 7.7% — an international estimate used in global rankings. However, the real issue is not the dispute over figures, but the fact that the Republic of Moldova continues to lose the fight against inflation, and citizens pay the price of this reality every day. Instead of clear solutions to protect living standards, public debate too often shifts toward abstract discussions or politically manipulative messages used for narrow party interests. Inflation, wages, pensions, jobs, and fiscal policy must be genuine priorities of governance, not mere tools of political communication.
