The annual inflation rate rose from 5.81% in March 2026 to 6.77% in April 2026, according to the Inflation Report No. 3, 2026, presented by the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), TRIBUNA reports.
Thus, the inflation rate moved outside the ±1.5 percentage-point variation range around the medium-term inflation target of 5.0% and remained above the upper limit of that range through the end of the second quarter of 2026, reaching 6.76% in May 2026 and 6.51% in June 2026.
The average annual inflation rate in Q2 2026 was 6.68%, 1.44 percentage points higher than in the previous quarter.
At the same time, in Q2 2026, the annual inflation rate was slightly higher than the level projected in the May 2026 Inflation Report. The upward trend in inflation was driven primarily by the effects of the Middle East crisis on fuel prices and transportation services.
“Higher energy prices, adjustments to regulated tariffs, second-round effects stemming from these factors, as well as other supply-side imbalances will support an increase in inflation in the period ahead.
The manner in which tariffs are adjusted, together with the tense situation in the region and the risks of further escalation, maintain a significant level of uncertainty surrounding the inflation forecast,” the NBM stated.
