35 Years of the National Bank of Moldova. Governor Anca Dragu: “We look with respect to the path traveled and with confidence to the future”

On the Day of Banking Sector Workers and at the 35th anniversary of the National Bank of Moldova, Governor Anca Dragu emphasized the institution’s role in strengthening the national currency and modernizing financial infrastructure to meet the needs of citizens and businesses.

She highlighted:

  • Stability built step by step through responsible decisions, resilient institutions, and professionals attentive to society’s progress.
  • Recognition of banking workers, whose efforts ensure safe transactions, protected savings, responsible lending, and greater confidence in financial decisions.
  • A stronger banking sector, well-capitalized, transparent, and aligned with European standards. In March 2026, the capital adequacy ratio was 22.3% (over twice the minimum requirement), and the liquidity coverage ratio reached 299.8%.
  • International recognition, with Moldova receiving sovereign ratings: BB- from S&P, B+ from Fitch, and B2 from Moody’s, all with stable outlooks—placing the country alongside Western Balkan states.
  • Closer ties with international partners, including hosting representatives from 24 member states of the BSCEE group in Chișinău.
  • Integration with Europe, demonstrated by Moldova’s connection to SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area), enabling faster, cheaper euro transfers, and by the national MIA Instant Payments system, which has become a regional reference point.

Governor Dragu concluded by thanking colleagues and workers in the banking sector for their professionalism and dedication, reaffirming the commitment to build a secure, modern, inclusive financial system that supports Moldova’s European future.
