Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova”, has once again proposed introducing what she calls social solidarity salaries, TRIBUNA reports.
“Six months ago, after numerous discussions with citizens from different districts of the Republic of Moldova and at their suggestion, we launched the initiative to introduce social solidarity salaries. The idea was simple: as long as the majority of the population is facing serious socio-economic problems and around one-third of citizens live in absolute poverty, social solidarity salaries should be introduced for those in power in the Republic of Moldova.
At that time, we proposed that, until the ‘better times’ promised by the current government arrive, all representatives of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) holding public office should receive only the minimum wage of 6,300 lei. Only then would they understand how most citizens truly live, and perhaps this would finally prompt them to take action to improve people’s lives,” she said.
The politician stated that Moldova is now on the brink of a new wave of price increases, noting that this is being openly discussed at various levels.
“People are watching with alarm all the discussions about the taxation that will be introduced from the new year and that will make life in the Republic of Moldova practically impossible. The cynicism of the authorities knows no bounds: while everyone is preparing for an explosion in prices and tariffs, those in power are discussing how to increase the salaries of the country’s president, the speaker of parliament, the prime minister, members of parliament, and others.
While people are leaving the country in search of jobs that will allow them to survive, the government continues to expand staffing at ministries and other central public administration institutions, providing relatives, friends, and associates with more than generous salaries. While people’s purchasing power is declining day by day, hundreds of officials appointed by PAS are receiving outrageously high salaries amounting to millions of lei per year,” the political leader said.
Irina Vlah added that she will ask the new prime minister to introduce social solidarity salaries.
“In these difficult times, representatives of the ruling party have no moral right to receive outrageously high salaries. If they still have even a minimum of respect for the country and its people, they should be satisfied with the minimum wage. This is also a test for those in power. Let’s see whether they pass it. Because it is immoral to sit comfortably in office with more than generous salaries while ordinary people are literally starving,” she concluded.
