TRIBUNA continues its project presenting the political events that took place exactly one year ago. This time, we invite you to remember what happened on August 26, 2025.

CEC Activities

The Central Electoral Commission held a specialized training session on political and electoral advertising online. The event was organized in partnership with experts from Google and YouTube and brought together representatives of political parties, electoral contestants registered for the September 28, 2025 parliamentary elections, and other electoral stakeholders.

The CEC also established the time and place for receiving documents for the registration of electoral blocs for the new local elections scheduled for November 16, 2025, and held a seminar for treasurers of electoral contestants registered for the parliamentary elections.

PRIM Protest

The Republican Party “Inima Moldovei” (PRIM) held a protest outside the Buiucani Police Inspectorate, where several party activists, including leader Irina Vlah, were questioned in criminal cases stemming from a protest outside the Presidency, where Maia Sandu was accused of interfering in the September 28 parliamentary elections.

PSDE Statement

The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) issued a statement calling for the restoration of the Agrarian University, describing it as an “essential institution for the development of agriculture and the rural economy.”

CEC Decisions

The Central Electoral Commission registered a list of 103 candidates for the position of member of Parliament from the “Our Party” for participation in the parliamentary elections.

Tatiana Crețu was also registered as an independent candidate for Parliament.

The Commission rejected Natalia Clevadî’s application to register as an independent candidate. Following verification of the signature lists, only 65 signatures were deemed valid, below the minimum requirement of 1,000 signatures for a female candidate.

The CEC also rejected Igor Ianac’s application for registration as an independent candidate. Following verification, 1,816 supporting signatures were deemed valid, below the required minimum of 2,000.

Pact Proposed by Andrei Năstase

On the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day, independent candidate Andrei Năstase announced the launch of the National Pact for an Integrity, Efficient and Responsible Parliament.

The document was a public commitment addressed to all independent candidates, political parties and electoral blocs participating in the September 28, 2025 parliamentary elections. Năstase called on all candidates and political formations to sign the pact and demonstrate their respect for the will of the people.

Congratulations to the “Fulger” Brigade

Prime Minister Dorin Recean congratulated members of the special-purpose police brigade “Fulger” on Moldova’s Independence Day and paid tribute to veterans who had defended the country’s independence and sovereignty.

In recognition of their dedication and patriotism, several members of the “Fulger” Brigade received certificates of appreciation.

President’s Visit

President Maia Sandu visited the agricultural science faculties of the Technical University of Moldova. The head of state highlighted the changes that had taken place at the institution in recent years.

Government Announcement

The Government announced the program of events through which Moldova would mark 34 years since the proclamation of independence on August 27. The events dedicated to the country’s national day were organized under the theme “Independence Unites Us.”

Grigore Novac’s Appeal

Grigore Novac, chair of the parliamentary Human Rights Committee and a Socialist Party member, appealed to the OSCE Mission in Moldova, Jillian Stirk, head of the OSCE election observation mission for Moldova’s parliamentary elections, the Central Electoral Commission, Ombudsman Ceslav Panico, and Equality Council President Ian Feldman.

The appeal concerned the reduction in the number of polling stations designated for Moldovan citizens living on the left bank of the Dniester.

Irina Vlah’s Letter

Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party “Inima Moldovei,” part of the Patriotic Electoral Bloc of Socialists, Communists, “Inima Moldovei” and “Viitorul Moldovei,” sent a letter to international observers expressing concern that the elections could be rigged.

PDMM Complaint

The Modern Democratic Party of Moldova (PDMM) accused state institutions of serious procedural violations and political pressure during the party’s registration process for the September 28, 2025 parliamentary elections.

At a press conference, Vlad Cebotari, one of the party’s founders and leaders, claimed that, at the political authorities’ direction, the Intelligence and Security Service was pressuring the Public Services Agency and the CEC to falsify documents and prevent PDMM from participating in the elections.

PDMM subsequently filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General’s Office, requesting criminal liability for the officials responsible within the three institutions.

Ion Ceban’s Clarifications

Ion Ceban, leader of the National Alternative Movement, part of the “Alternative” Bloc, issued clarifications regarding Maia Sandu’s latest statements concerning a photograph from the presidential campaign and the ban imposed on him.

Prosecutor’s Office Announcement

The Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of three men, aged 27, 36 and 50, from Chișinău and Criuleni, who allegedly participated in training sessions in Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 2024.

According to the authorities, the purpose of the training was to prepare for the organization of mass unrest in the context of the presidential election and referendum held in the autumn of that year.

PDMM Letter

The Modern Democratic Party of Moldova sent a letter to the U.S. Embassy, the EU Delegation and the OSCE Mission in Moldova, as well as other diplomatic and observer missions.

The party accused the Central Electoral Commission, the Public Services Agency and the Intelligence and Security Service of acting on PAS’s instructions to prevent the formation from participating in the elections.

Renewed Appeal to Dorin Recean

Promo-LEX once again called on Prime Minister Dorin Recean to intervene urgently to secure the release of Vadim Pogorlețchi, who had been illegally detained in the Transnistrian region since August 2022.

Government-Approved Projects

At its meeting, the Government approved several projects, including:

• financial support for the development of digital innovations and technology startups within Moldova IT Park;
• granting “Agrotek Park,” a limited liability company founded by the Technical University of Moldova, the status of a specialized industrial park dedicated to digital innovation in agriculture;
• the concept and regulations for the “VioData” information system on violence against women and domestic violence.
