MPs from the Socialist Party (PSRM), Vladimir Odnostalco and Ala Ursu‑Antoci, stated during a briefing in Parliament that the social sector is facing a catastrophic situation and announced the initiation of a motion of censure against the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, TRIBUNA reports.
Ala Ursu‑Antoci stressed that poverty levels in the country have reached critical levels, and pensioners are being forced to sell their last belongings to pay record‑high utility bills. According to her, during the current minister’s mandate, electricity compensations were cancelled, heating subsidies were reduced, and more than 180,000 families were denied compensation.
The Socialists also pointed to the lack of strategies, programmes, and a clear ministerial position on combating poverty, noting that the poverty rate stands at 33% nationally and 43% in rural areas. “Today, the Ministry of Social Protection has turned into a ministry of protecting poverty,” the MP said, calling for the minister’s resignation.
Vladimir Odnostalco stated that fear and uncertainty dominate society, and people are worried about the future and about utility bills: “This is not life, but survival.”
He recalled that over the past five years, more than 300,000 working‑age people have left the country. “Demographics are the main indicator of governance efficiency. Yet the ministry has not proposed any policy in this area,” Odnostalco underlined.
The Socialists also drew attention to rising prices for essential goods, the mismatch between the minimum wage and European standards, and the lack of real support for socially vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities.
The PSRM parliamentary faction argues that none of the seven social promises announced by the government have been fulfilled and insists on the minister’s dismissal. The party states that social policy must focus on improving citizens’ quality of life and supporting families, pensioners, and people with special needs, rather than remaining at the level of declarations.
