The development partners of the Republic of Moldova fully support the local public administration reform, pledging to provide the necessary expertise and assistance to help implement it and build stronger communities that ensure a better quality of life for citizens. This message was conveyed during today’s meeting between the Secretary General of the Government, Alexei Buzu, and external donors, TRIBUNA reports.
The Secretary General emphasized that the reform will lead to better management of localities, more development projects implemented in communities, and higher-quality, more accessible services for people. “This reform is not about territories or administrative borders, but an opportunity to empower local public administration in Moldova, to create European-style town halls capable of accessing pre-accession funds to improve the living standards of all citizens,” said Alexei Buzu.
Dialogue participants stressed the need for effective coordination of external assistance in the context of the reform, broad communication about its benefits, and adjustment of current aid to align with the reform’s objectives and upcoming priorities. External partners addressed issues such as the financial sustainability of town halls, strengthening local teams, encouraging voluntary amalgamation, and ensuring ongoing coordination of reform actions with all relevant stakeholders.
“We see this reform as a way to accelerate local, regional, and national development. We need your support and expertise to manage development projects,” added Alexei Buzu.
In the coming period, the local public administration reform will be consulted with all parliamentary and extra-parliamentary factions, as well as with citizens across all districts of the country.
