561 Mayors’ Offices Have Adopted Final Decisions on Voluntary Amalgamation

A total of 561 mayors’ offices have adopted final decisions on voluntary amalgamation, reports TRIBUNA.

Alexei Buzu, Secretary General of the Government, said this is an important achievement for the reform of local public administration and, above all, for the communities that have chosen to become stronger and more developed, with greater capacity to attract investment, manage projects, and provide quality services to their residents.

“In total, up to MDL 4.5 billion has been earmarked for communities that have opted for voluntary amalgamation. These are significant resources that can be invested in better public services, infrastructure, and the development of localities,” he said.

The official also provided “a few examples that best illustrate what this change means for people.” Ungheni is the leader both in terms of population and the amount of incentives: the cluster formed around the municipality will bring together 10 administrative units and more than 42,000 residents and will receive incentives of over MDL 157 million.

In Călărași, 14 mayors’ offices have merged, with incentives reaching more than MDL 116.6 million. More than MDL 85.3 million in incentives has been allocated for the voluntary amalgamation of nine mayors’ offices in Rezina. In Rîșcani, the seven merged mayors’ offices will receive more than MDL 72.6 million.

“I thank all the mayors, local councilors, and citizens who have been involved in this process. The decisions made today will matter for the development of communities in the years ahead,” Alexei Buzu emphasized.
