Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu will undertake a working visit to Washington, D.C., United States, on 15–16 January. The visit focuses on deepening bilateral cooperation with the U.S. in the energy sector and identifying new opportunities for collaboration with American partners in electricity generation, TRIBUNA reports.
During the visit, the Minister will hold meetings with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, representatives of the Department of Energy and the Department of State, as well as Sara Thannhauser, Associate Director for Policy and Sanctions Implementation at the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and with U.S. senators.
The agenda also includes discussions with American energy companies aimed at establishing mutually beneficial partnerships, attracting investment, facilitating expertise transfer, and participating in an expert roundtable hosted by the Atlantic Council, dedicated to regional energy security challenges and prospects.
A key topic will be the construction project of the 400 kV Strășeni–Gutinaș overhead transmission line — a mutually advantageous partnership for both the United States and the Republic of Moldova, creating opportunities for U.S. companies and strengthening Moldova’s energy security.
The partnership aims to open the market to U.S. companies, increase the country’s energy independence, reduce network losses, and improve the viability of the electricity sector with U.S. involvement, in the context of eliminating dependence on a single energy source and diversifying both generation capacity and supply routes.
