Starting January 1, 2026, the national minimum wage will increase from 5,500 to 6,300 lei per month, which is 15% higher compared to the current year and 87% higher compared to the minimum wage of 2,935 lei in 2021. The Government has today approved the amounts for the minimum and average wages, as well as amendments to the Regulation on the establishment and payment of allowances for families with children, TRIBUNA reports.
Beginning January 1, the average monthly wage in the economy will rise from 16,100 lei in 2025 to 17,400 lei in 2026. Updating this amount will contribute to increasing the attractiveness of job offers, motivating employees, and ensuring workforce stability through competitive salary packages.
To support families with children, the one-time childbirth allowance will be increased. Starting January 1, it will amount to 21,886 lei, up by more than 536 lei. This represents a 130% increase compared to the allowance of 9,459 lei in 2021. According to forecasts by the National Social Insurance House, in 2026 more than 36,000 children will benefit from this allowance.
