Radu Marian, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget, and Finance, participated in the EU Forum for Parliamentary Democracy. The event was organized by the European Parliament and took place on November 19 in Brussels, reports TRIBUNA.
During his speech, Radu Marian shared Moldova’s experience in confronting challenges, disinformation, and foreign interference. He highlighted four key elements for protecting citizens against hybrid threats — elements that could be useful to other countries as well: courageous and trustworthy political leadership; allies who can act and provide expertise and financial support; excellent coordination between law enforcement and cybersecurity institutions; and strong discipline in communication.
“People need to understand that the threat to democracy doesn’t come from some vague force. There are real individuals, structures, and even states behind these threats. Moldova has shown that the severity of threats doesn’t matter. A small democracy can defeat vicious dictators,” said MP Radu Marian.
He also spoke about Moldova’s recent experience, the challenges the country has faced, and how they were overcome — citing this autumn’s parliamentary elections as an example. “This victory of the Moldovan people is important for the European Union because Moldovans have shown that the European project of peace, freedom, and prosperity is worth defending through struggle. And this message is especially important now, when the EU is more threatened than ever — by Russia, but also by internal forces. Democracy doesn’t just happen automatically. It is earned through hardship, sacrifice, and above all, with the help of allies”, Radu Marian reiterated.
