The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) warns of the worsening agricultural crisis in several regions of the country.
According to PSDE, prolonged drought, insufficient funding, rising production costs, and the lack of decisive government measures have already pushed thousands of farmers to the brink of bankruptcy. Agriculture — a central pillar of the national economy — is left without adequate support at a critical time.
PSDE believes the Executive must intervene urgently through a concrete and rapid action plan:
- Launch a national emergency financial support program for farmers affected by drought, through direct subsidies and state-guaranteed loans, enabling them to continue operations and meet current obligations.
- Introduce a temporary moratorium on forced debt collection and banking penalties for farmers unable to make payments due to massive production losses.
- Establish an interministerial operational group for agriculture, with participation from farmers’ associations, to coordinate support decisions and identify technical solutions for the 2026 agricultural campaign.
“Moldova no longer needs statements and promises, but concrete actions. Every day of delay deepens the crisis and increases the number of those abandoning a sector essential to the country’s economy.
PSDE calls on the Government to act responsibly and treat agriculture as a national priority. The economic future of the Republic of Moldova cannot be secured as long as farmers are left alone to face their challenges,” the party emphasized.
