On December 16, 2024, during the meeting with Secretary General Artur Mija, the German Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Margret Uebber, announced an additional financial support of over 33 million euros in the form of grants, offered to the Republic of Moldova.
“Improving the living conditions of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and strengthening local businesses as the economic backbone of the country are main goals of our development cooperation. With this new financial commitment, we reaffirm our continued support for the Republic of Moldova and its European pathway”, said Ambassador Margret Uebber.
Germany, through the German Development Bank (KfW), will provide affordable long-term financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Republic of Moldova. These investments will support the modernization and expansion of production capacities and thus contribute to the creation of hundreds of jobs in the private sector. The SME support mechanism, the Fund for Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth of Moldova (FACEM), managed by the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA), will receive a grant of 20 million euros, in addition to the existing grant of 10.7 million euros.
On the technical cooperation side, the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) will use the grant funding of 13 million euros for projects aimed at bringing concrete improvements to the life of Moldovan citizens. These include a new project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, which will support communities in the border regions between Moldova and Ukraine to provide drinking water to their citizens. Other initiatives will aim at modernizing public services to become more efficient and accessible, supporting the administration in the process of European integration. Furthermore, a new anti-corruption project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, will support anti-corruption efforts and ensure equitable access to basic services such as education and health.
Germany is also helping to reduce energy costs for Moldovan citizens by expanding the German energy efficiency and renewable energy project which is co-funded by the EU and Norway.
Secretary General Artur Mija expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Moldova for the support. “Germany is one of our strategic partners and supports our efforts to transform the country through various projects in areas that directly contribute to improving the life of our citizens, as well as to our progress on the path of European integration”, said Mr. Mija.
