The League of Cities and Communes (LOC) party is merging with the National Liberal Party (PNL). The announcement was made during a press conference, TRIBUNA reports.

Alexandru Bujorean, co-chairman of LOC, said it was an honor for LOC to merge with a political formation bearing a historic name with strong resonance both in Moldova and Romania.

“This merger does not mean the disappearance of our identity or members. We are bringing our administrative experience, territorial structures, and local elected officials,” he said.

The mayor of Leova noted that “the door remains open to all center-right forces” that share a pro-European orientation and Romanian ideals.

“We need to build a strong political front that is ready to participate in the 2027 local elections, the 2028 presidential elections, and the 2029 parliamentary elections.

We need a common vision on the economy, justice, European integration, and relations with Romania,” Alexandru Bujorean said.

Ion Calmîc, Secretary General of the PNL, said that this was not simply a merger of organizational structures, but an important step toward consolidating the right-wing political forces.
