Preliminary report: Maia Sandu won the elections; The CEC, within 5 days, will draw up a record of the elections!

The Central Electoral Commission presented the preliminary balance regarding the totalization of the results of the second round of the elections for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova, informs TRIBUNA. 

Today, November 4, 2024, at 06:00, the last polling stations closed in Sacramento, Seattle and Las Vegas in the US and in Vancouver in Canada.

According to preliminary data, 1,699,025 voters participated in the elections, or 54.31% of the voters included in the electoral lists.

The electoral legislation stipulates that the second round of the presidential elections is declared valid if at least 20% of the number of people registered in the electoral lists participated in it. Under these conditions, the CEC confirms the validity of the vote.

Within the 231 polling stations set up abroad, including the 3 for voting by mail, 328,855 voters exercised their constitutional right to vote, which represents the largest number of voters since the organization of voting stations over borders.

The most active voting participation rate was recorded in the following polling stations abroad:

38/194 – Moscow 1 (consular section of the embassy), Russian Federation: 4,999 voters;

38/195 – Moscow 2 (consular section of the embassy), Russian Federation: 4,999 voters;

38/100 – Brescia, Italian Republic: 4,463 voters;

38/178 – Bucharest 1 (embassy), Romania: 4,433 voters;

38/110 – Italian Republic, city of Padua: 4,289 voters;

38/033 – French Republic, Paris 8 (Livry-Gargan): 4,012 voters;

38/116 – Italian Republic, Vicenza: 3,673 voters

38/036 – French Republic, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges 1: 3,652 voters;

38/112 – Italian Republic, Venice (Masters) 1: 3,632 voters;

38/114 – Italian Republic, Verona 1: 3,558 voters.

The profile of the voters is as follows: 54.79% of the voters present at the polling booths on yesterday’s election day are women and 45.21% – men

– 8.32% – aged between 18 and 25;

– 15.37% – 26-35 years old, (23.69%)

– 20.14% – 36-45 years old,

– 17.02% – 46-55 years old,

– 18.97% – 56-65 years old

–         15.69% – 66-75 years and

– 4.5% represent the electorate over 76 years old.

Up to this time, 99.86% of the minutes prepared by the electoral offices of the polling stations have been processed.

According to preliminary information, the results obtained by the participating candidates in the electoral race for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova are as follows:

– Maia Sandu – more than 930 thousand voters or 55.41% voted;

– Alexandr Stoianoglo – accumulated over 748 thousand votes, which represents 44.59%.

The electoral code stipulates that the candidate who obtained the highest number of votes in the second round of voting is declared elected.

The General Inspectorate of the Police informed about the registration, during the election day, of 225 violations/incidents and other actions regarding the conduct of the electoral activity, as follows:

–    76 cases related to photographing the ballot (31 minutes drawn up);

– 30 cases pertain to the prohibited electoral agitation (1 report drawn up);

– 26 cases of reasonable suspicion of voter corruption (2 reports drawn up);

– 24 cases of organized transport of voters;

–    9 cases of violation of the right to vote;

–    8 cases of ballot paper damage;

–    7 cases of unauthorized electoral display.

Other incidents: A stamp was damaged in Călărași, a stamp was lost in Bălți, and a stamp was found missing at a polling station in Anenii Noi.

Also, more than 40 other documented cases concerned other violations of the electoral process. We also mention the cases of false alarms regarding the mining of polling stations in the country and abroad, as well as the bridge over the Dniester from Râbnița to Rezina.

In the next 48 hours, the CEC will receive the electoral documents and materials from each electoral district.

At the same time, under the conditions of the Electoral Code, the CEC has 5 days to draw up a record of the totalization of the elections, which, later, it will present to the Constitutional Court together with the report on the results of the presidential election.
