Maia Sandu: The Romanian language is part of who we are

On Romanian Language Day, President Maia Sandu stated that “the Romanian language is part of our very being. Our parents and grandparents continued to speak it even in the harshest times, despite bans and humiliation. Thanks to them, the Romanian language endured on this land.” She emphasized that today people can speak it freely and without fear, which makes the responsibility to protect it even greater, TRIBUNA reports.

The President underscored the duty to pass on to children the love for the Romanian language, just as previous generations passed it on to us. She described this as a precious legacy — a living language, spoken beautifully, in which children can tell their stories, sing their traditional songs, and express their longing.

“Happy Romanian Language Day!”, the head of state concluded.
