The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports an incident that occurred during the night of August 21, 2026, in the immediate vicinity of the Republic of Moldova’s border with Ukraine, in the area of the Mirnoe (Republic of Moldova) – Tabachi (Ukraine) border crossing.
At around 00:35, Border Police patrols on duty heard sounds characteristic of Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles and observed several explosions on Ukrainian territory, in the area of the Tabachi border crossing.
The UAVs fell on Ukrainian territory, approximately 300 meters from the state border with the Republic of Moldova. As a result of the attack, the Ukrainian Tabachi border crossing was affected.
At 01:00, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine confirmed the incident and the fact that the unmanned aerial vehicles had fallen on Ukrainian territory, in the area of the Tabachi border crossing.
Under these circumstances, operations at the Mirnoe (Republic of Moldova) – Tabachi (Ukraine) border crossing were suspended. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.
On the territory of the Republic of Moldova, all procedural measures required by law were taken. Border Police units in the region were informed and mobilized, including the Cișmichioi, Copceac and Giurgiulești Border Police Sectors.
As of this hour, no drone fragments or other objects posing a risk to public safety have been identified in the border area on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The Border Police, together with the Customs Service and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, are continuously monitoring the situation in order to manage it and remain in contact with the competent authorities in Ukraine.
Citizens are urged, if they hear sounds characteristic of drones or explosions near the border, to remain calm, seek shelter in a safe place indoors, and rely exclusively on information provided by the authorities.
People are also urged not to approach any possible drone debris, ammunition, or other unidentified objects and to immediately notify the authorities by calling 112.
