Parliament to Convene in Extraordinary Session from August 20–26, 2026

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will convene in an extraordinary session from August 20 to 26, 2026. The Standing Bureau approved the decision to convene Parliament at the request of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, TRIBUNA reports.

The draft agenda for the plenary meetings of the extraordinary session, approved by the Standing Bureau, includes 37 draft normative acts, 23 of which carry the EU label and are part of the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.

The areas targeted by the harmonization of national legislation with the EU acquis include social protection, justice, the financial market, environmental protection, infrastructure, mass media, postal communications, and road safety.

In addition to the EU-related bills, the agenda includes initiatives aimed at strengthening the national legislative framework. Among the bills scheduled for second reading are the Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament, amendments to the Electoral Code, a bill on the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments in Civil or Commercial Matters, as well as initiatives concerning the digitalization of certain judicial procedures and public participation in decision-making.

Deputies will also examine a bill on the procedure for compensating damages caused by unlawful acts committed in criminal and contravention proceedings, as well as a bill on arbitration.

Public consultations and meetings of parliamentary committees will take place from August 20 to 25. Plenary meetings are scheduled for August 24 and 25. On Monday, August 24, deputies will convene for a plenary session starting at 2:00 p.m.

The draft agenda can be viewed on Parliament’s website, while the plenary sessions will be broadcast live on the institution’s communication platforms.

According to the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, when Parliament is not in an ordinary session, it may convene in an extraordinary or special session at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker of Parliament, or one-third of the deputies.
