The Permanent Bureau will consider Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu’s request to convene Parliament in an extraordinary session from August 20 to 26, 2026, TRIBUNA reports.
The extraordinary session is being convened due to the need to urgently adopt a package of major legislative acts. These measures stem from the commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova as part of its European integration process and are included in the National Programme for Accession to the European Union.
The draft agenda for the plenary meetings on August 24 and 25 includes 36 legislative acts, 22 of which carry the EU designation. The agenda is expected to be approved by the Permanent Bureau tomorrow. The proposed legislation covers areas of major public interest, including the legal and institutional framework, management of financial instruments, digitalization, infrastructure, the proper functioning of the electoral system, as well as the social, economic and media sectors.
According to the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, when Parliament is not in an ordinary session, it may convene in extraordinary or special sessions at the request of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the Speaker of Parliament, or one-third of the members of Parliament.
