Second EU–Moldova Summit. Maia Sandu: “Reforms are recognised and rewarded — with European funds, investment, and trust”

President Maia Sandu participated today in Brussels in the second Republic of Moldova – European Union Summit, alongside European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. At the end of the meeting, the leaders adopted a joint declaration and held a press conference, reaffirming that Moldova’s future lies in the European Union, TRIBUNA reports.

The summit is a regular high‑level dialogue format. Discussions focused on the next steps in accession negotiations, Moldova’s reform agenda, and cooperation on economic development, energy, security, and defence.

The meeting comes one week after the opening of accession negotiations on the first cluster of chapters — Fundamental Values. Both the European Commission and the European Council confirmed that the Republic of Moldova is ready to open negotiations on all clusters, based on its merits. “Moldova is doing its part. We count on the support of all 27 member states,” President Maia Sandu stated.

Three agreements were signed during the summit:

  • Gebauer & Griller and the European Commission signed a letter of intent to further integrate Moldova’s automotive industry with the European market.
  • The European Commission and Moldova HiTech Park will jointly establish a centre for entrepreneurship and research in medical technology.
  • The Ministry of Education and Research signed a framework agreement with the Commission’s Joint Research Centre to strengthen cooperation in research and innovation.

Addressing citizens at home, President Sandu underlined that Moldova’s partnership with the EU is growing stronger and that reforms are being recognised and rewarded — through European funding, investment, and increased confidence. “As we move forward, every step brings concrete results for people: peace, safety, and opportunities, here at home, in the European family,” she said.
