Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met today at the Government House with a group of agricultural producers, representatives of the National Federation of Farmers of Moldova, and the Association of Women for Resilient Agriculture to discuss current challenges facing the agricultural sector and potential joint solutions, TRIBUNA reports.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga, Minister of Finance Andrian Gavriliță, and representatives of other public authorities.
Prime Minister Munteanu emphasized that the Government remains open to constructive dialogue and that cooperation between authorities and producers is essential for improving business conditions and supporting the local economy.
“It is a difficult period for agriculture. That is why I believe the best decisions are made when we sit at the same table and speak openly,” the Prime Minister said.
Discussions focused on agricultural risk management, increasing productivity, improving access to favorable financing, and addressing labor shortages, particularly for seasonal work.
Participants also examined issues related to the Day Laborers Law, the fiscal policy currently under public consultation, the consolidation of agricultural reporting processes and data digitalization, as well as the efficient use of state-owned assets to develop tourism and promote local products.
“I have traveled to many countries and had the opportunity to taste products from all corners of the world. Every time I return home, I realize that the fruits and vegetables grown in the Republic of Moldova have a unique, authentic taste. We have hardworking people and high-quality products. Our role is to create the conditions for this work to be properly rewarded,” Munteanu stated.
Farmers also raised concerns about amendments to the Insolvency Law and the Enforcement Code, arguing that some current provisions place an excessive burden on agricultural producers. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice noted that relevant amendments are currently undergoing public consultations.
All issues raised by farmers will be reviewed by the responsible ministries and authorities to identify viable solutions. Prime Minister Munteanu assured participants that discussions in this format will continue to facilitate farmers’ activities through joint efforts and constructive dialogue.
“I have once again become convinced that farmers are not asking for impossible things. They want predictability, fair rules, and constant dialogue with the authorities. This is also our commitment. We will continue these discussions and work together on solutions that will help farmers develop their businesses,” the Prime Minister concluded.
