The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has confirmed that entry visas were issued to a delegation from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, TRIBUNA reports.
The visit was initiated in the context of discussions between local agricultural producers and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of the Republic of Moldova regarding the possibility of humanitarian agricultural exports to Afghanistan, a country currently facing a severe food insecurity crisis.
“The members of the delegation who have arrived in our country are not subject to international sanctions. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova strictly complies with all international sanctions regimes and does not recognize the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan.
In this context, we wish to clarify that no bilateral meetings or other official contacts will take place with members of the delegation.
The Government has ordered a review of the circumstances under which the invitation and entry visas were issued, as well as a revision of the relevant internal procedures, in order to ensure full compliance with the legal framework and the foreign policy interests of the Republic of Moldova,” the Ministry stated.
