Gaik Vartanean, MP of the National Alternative Movement Party (MAN) and member of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration, held several meetings in Berlin between 18–20 May with representatives of German institutions, the European Commission, and parliaments of EU candidate countries.
The discussions focused on the prospects of the European Union’s enlargement, the reforms required in candidate states, regional security, the role of national parliaments in the European integration process, and the challenges generated by the current geopolitical context.
“The situation for the Moldovan authorities is quite complex and, at the same time, one that requires maximum attention. Moldova must do its ‘homework’ quickly and properly, because time is passing, and stagnation or the inability to correctly adapt legislation — while taking into account the interests of citizens and the business environment — can very quickly turn into missed opportunities or even the loss of several years,” Vartanean stated.
At the Bundestag, the MAN deputy held discussions with representatives from almost the entire German political spectrum, including the Chair of the Committee on European Affairs, Anton Hofreiter.
Gaik Vartanean also met with representatives of Deutsche Welle, the German Eastern Business Association, DGAP, Germanwatch, and the German Judges Association. The topics addressed included press freedom, combating disinformation, economic cooperation, justice reform, the energy transition, and sustainable development.
“For the Republic of Moldova, it is extremely important to strengthen ties not only at the level of states, but also between societies, experts, and the business community,” the MAN deputy concluded.
