Angela Cutasevici, a Member of Parliament from the National Alternative Movement and former deputy mayor of the capital responsible for education, announced that for objective health-related reasons she cannot participate in the teachers’ protest, but fully supports her colleagues and their demands, TRIBUNA reports.
The politician said that teachers have been patient. In January 2026, for the first time in eight years, the annual salary increase did not take place. They waited, trusting the promise that salaries would increase starting September 1, 2026. Meanwhile, the cost of living continued to rise, while teachers’ salaries remained at the level established at the beginning of 2025. This reality is felt by every family through the cost of food, medicines, transportation, utilities, bills and everyday expenses.
“How much more patience can we ask of a teacher when prices are rising, responsibilities are increasing, and the promised salary increase is once again being postponed?
I spent many years in the classroom. I know how much work, patience and responsibility this profession requires. I know what teaching means — dedication to every child, concern for their progress, hours of preparation, assessments, discussions with parents and the effort that often continues beyond working hours.
We constantly talk about reforms, quality, attracting young people to schools and retaining experienced teachers. All these goals lose their meaning when the person in the classroom lives from month to month worrying about tomorrow’s expenses,” she said.
Angela Cutasevici said teachers had waited for months for the salary increase announced for September 1. They had trusted the commitments that were made. Today, with the deadline so close, they have every reason to demand answers and the fulfillment of the promise that was made.
“Respect for teachers must be reflected both in their salaries and in the way the state honors its promises,” the MP emphasized.
