President Maia Sandu today awarded the “Order of Honour” to the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Moldova, Tadas Valionis, at the end of his term in Chisinau, TRIBUNA reports.
The distinction was awarded in recognition of his contribution to strengthening Moldovan-Lithuanian relations and his consistent support for the Republic of Moldova’s European path.
Between 2022 and 2026, bilateral dialogue intensified significantly, with more than 40 visits by Lithuanian officials to the Republic of Moldova at presidential, governmental and parliamentary levels. Lithuania shared its own experience of negotiating EU accession and expanded assistance projects focused on democratic resilience, strategic communication and combating disinformation, as well as cybersecurity. Lithuania has also committed to providing the Republic of Moldova with €6 million in military assistance for 2026–2028.
Lithuania will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027 and has announced EU enlargement as one of its priorities.
