On 21 May 2026, during a working visit to Vienna, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri participated as a special guest in a meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Permanent Council, where he outlined the measures undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Moldova within the Transnistrian settlement process.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Chișinău’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Transnistrian region, as well as to advance a peaceful and durable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders. It was emphasized that these actions are being carried out simultaneously with the country’s European integration process. The need for the demilitarization and democratization of the region was also underlined as a key prerequisite for a comprehensive settlement capable of ensuring the proper functioning of the state, adherence to democratic standards, and guarantees for the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms.
During his statement, the Deputy Prime Minister provided information on the dynamics of the dialogue between Chișinău and Tiraspol within the existing formats of interaction, as well as on current agenda issues, including freedom of movement, human rights, the release of illegally detained citizens, the problems faced by farmers from the Dubăsari district cultivating agricultural land located beyond the road Camenca-Tiraspol, and issues in the fields of education and environment. In parallel, Chișinău’s initiatives were presented, including the introduction of the Romanian language in all Moldovan schools, ensuring access to the single emergency service 112, and the establishment of a Convergence Fund intended to support the implementation of social, educational, infrastructure and other projects for the benefit of inhabitants on both banks of the Nistru River.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of “feeling the pulse” of the processes taking place in Vienna within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe framework, as well as the need for external partners to support the efforts of the Moldovan authorities aimed at advancing the country’s reintegration objective.
The significant role of the European Union, the Republic of Moldova’s key partner, was also highlighted in providing multifaceted assistance that strengthens the institutional system, contributes to structural reforms and the modernization of the country, and creates favorable preconditions for sustainable reintegration.
In support of the Deputy Prime Minister’s statement, representatives of several states, including certain groups (the European Union and NB8 – the Nordic and Baltic countries), delivered statements reaffirming their commitment to the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, as well as for the country’s European path. Chișinău’s efforts to advance the goal of reintegration were also acknowledged and supported.
