Prime Minister’s Announcement: Eugeniu Osmochescu – Minister of Agriculture. Who Will Take Over the Ministry of Economic Development?!

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has announced two important changes to the composition of the Government, TRIBUNA reports.

“We will nominate Eugeniu Osmochescu for the position of Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. Eugen is already very familiar with the Government’s mechanisms and the priorities we have committed to. I thank him for accepting such a complex and strategic portfolio for the Republic of Moldova.

His economic background and experience with international financial institutions will help us attract more resources for the modernization of agriculture and accelerate the reforms the sector needs, especially now, when climate change is putting increasing pressure on our farmers.

His mission is clear: to make Moldovan agriculture more productive, competitive and better adapted to today’s economic realities.

For the position of Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, we will nominate Claudiu Năsui. Claudiu brings a rare combination of solid economic training, private-sector experience, political experience and direct involvement in implementing government reforms.

He studied economics at Paris Dauphine University and finance at Bocconi University, worked in the financial sector, including at PwC and BCR, and holds the international CFA certification. After years of studying and gaining experience abroad, he chose to return to Romania and become involved in public life.

He first entered the Romanian Parliament in 2016, and from 2020 to 2021 he served as Romania’s Minister of Economy. During this period, he developed a clear profile: less bureaucracy, greater transparency in the way the state spends public money, greater discipline in the public sector and more room for entrepreneurs.

He is the founder of the Open Budget platform, created to make public spending more transparent. He has consistently supported bold reforms, including when they involve challenging structures, expenditures or privileges that have been perpetuated for years.

We need this kind of energy at the Ministry of Economy.

His priorities will be cutting bureaucracy in the state apparatus, addressing the problems of state-owned companies, reducing budget expenditures and removing obstacles facing small and medium-sized enterprises. We want the Ministry of Economy to become one of the main engines of state reform and economic growth,” the official said.

Vasile Tofan said that, when the Government was inaugurated, he had stated that the programme placed the economy at its center and that changes to the team would be made whenever necessary.

“With these two appointments, we want to accelerate reforms, make the state more efficient and give the economy, including the agricultural sector, more room for growth,” he stressed.
