Political Party „Partidul Nostru” announced that all parliamentary opposition factions have signed a joint declaration addressed to Parliament Speaker

Political Party „Partidul Nostru” announced that all parliamentary opposition factions in the Republic of Moldova have signed a joint declaration addressed to Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. In this declaration, the opposition expresses a unified position against the draft Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament and requests that its promotion be halted until there is broad political consensus.

The opposition warns that the draft introduces several major risks to democratic parliamentary functioning, including:

  • Allowing the parliamentary majority to change procedural rules at its discretion
  • Limiting MPs’ rights to free expression, legislative initiative, and parliamentary oversight
  • Reducing the role of the opposition in decision‑making
  • Introducing procedural mechanisms that could advantage the ruling party

The document also argues that some provisions could enable procedural abuses, unjustifiably expand the powers of parliamentary leadership, and restrict transparency and public debate—contrary to the Constitution, Constitutional Court jurisprudence, and European standards.

Separately, Renato Usatîi, leader of the Partidul Nostru faction, together with leaders of other opposition factions, sent an official address to:

  • Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe
  • Marta Cartabia, President of the Venice Commission
  • Iwona Piorko, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova

They request urgent intervention to prevent what they describe as legislative backsliding.

The party states that it supports provisions aimed at improving parliamentary efficiency but rejects any initiative that would limit MPs’ fundamental rights or weaken the opposition in a democratic system.

They emphasize that parliamentary rules must not be changed unilaterally or based on short‑term political interests, but should result from genuine dialogue and broad consensus, aligned with European standards and rule‑of‑law principles.

Through these actions, the parliamentary opposition calls on both Moldova’s parliamentary leadership and European institutions to help prevent an anti‑democratic drift and ensure that Moldova respects its commitments to democratic governance.
