The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) is working alongside the competent authorities to provide the necessary support in managing the consequences of the pollution of the Nistru River. In this context, during 14–15 March 2026, IGSU employees from the Republic of Moldova, together with the relevant authorities and Romanian colleagues, carried out actions to disperse absorbent material in the areas where containment barriers were installed.
On 14 March, an intervention team from Romania arrived at the field camp set up near the village of Cureșnița, Soroca district. Assistance is being provided to the Republic of Moldova through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism to support the management of the consequences of the Nistru River pollution. The team consists of 10 specialists — five representatives of the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and five representatives of the Romanian National Administration “Apele Române.” Two trucks carrying equipment and materials intended for intervention and pollution‑control operations also arrived on site.
During this period, in several sectors of the Nistru River in the Ocnița and Soroca districts, absorbent barriers were installed and absorbent material was dispersed in the areas where the barriers were placed.
The situation continues to be monitored around the clock (24/24) by employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, together with staff from the Ministry of Environment and other competent institutions: the Environment Agency, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, and the National Agency for Public Health.
IGSU urges the population to follow the messages issued by the authorities.
