The Ministry of Environment has announced that the Novodnestrovsk Reservoir is experiencing a historic low inflow. On Sunday, the incoming water flow fell to an alarming level of just 23 m³/s. During the first 10 days of August, the daily average was 38 m³/s.

Given that water releases toward the Republic of Moldova remain at 75 m³/s, the reservoir’s water level continues to decline, TRIBUNA reports.

Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder said the situation is “an extremely serious warning.” Very low flows are affecting the entire Dniester ecosystem, the river’s ability to maintain its natural balance, as well as the water supply for the population.

“The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova is working continuously with the Ukrainian side, monitoring the situation around the clock and analyzing hydrological data and operational information. We are in contact with all responsible institutions and will keep the public informed about developments and the measures that need to be taken,” the minister said.

Under these circumstances, he stressed that it is essential to reduce water losses, adapt water intake infrastructure, avoid unnecessary consumption, and use available resources as responsibly as possible, both by institutions and consumers.
