The reform of local public administration continued to be discussed with citizens and local leaders in another nine districts between 16–20 February. Government representatives travelled to Edineț, Dondușeni, Rîșcani, Glodeni, Anenii Noi, Căușeni, Ștefan Vodă, Hîncești and Ialoveni, where they listened to residents’ views and expectations regarding the reform, TRIBUNA reports.
Last week, consultations were held in seven other districts: Drochia, Soroca, Nisporeni, Florești, Sângerei, Cantemir and Cahul. During the public discussions, representatives of the State Chancellery emphasized the importance of involving everyone in shaping the reform concept so that the transformation of local public administration truly meets people’s needs.
Officials highlighted that the reform aims to provide local administrations with the tools they need to solve community problems, with the main goal of building strong town halls for well‑developed communities. Public services should be delivered at, while districts should coordinate the activities of towns and villages and serve as regional platforms for planning, joint procurement the local level, and major EU‑assisted projects.
As part of the reform, the Government is encouraging voluntary amalgamation. To support this process, procedures will be simplified, additional financial resources will be allocated, and the State Chancellery will offer guidance.
Consultations on the reform vision will continue until the end of February in other districts across the Republic of Moldova. The proposals collected are being analyzed and integrated into the reform concept, which will be presented and widely debated starting in March.
