Igor Grosu’s Order

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu signed an order convening Parliament for the 2025 autumn regular session, beginning on September 1.

Start of the Election Campaign

The election campaign for the September 28, 2025 parliamentary elections began. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) called on electoral contestants to conduct their campaigns in strict compliance with electoral legislation.

BEP Launches Campaign at Căpriana Monastery

The Patriotic Electoral Bloc of Socialists, Communists, Heart of Moldova and Moldova’s Future (BEP) launched its electoral campaign near Căpriana Monastery — a place described as having special significance for Moldova, where the foundations of the country’s spiritual and cultural center were laid about 600 years ago.

CEC Meeting

The CEC examined and rejected the application to register the list of candidates submitted by the Modern Democratic Party of Moldova. It also confirmed representatives and treasurers for the Electoral Bloc “Blocul Unirea Națiunii” and the Liberal Party. In addition, the CEC accredited several observers for the parliamentary elections.

“Our Party” Launches Campaign

At the source of the Răut River, in Rediul Mare village, Dondușeni district, where he spent his childhood, Our Party leader Renato Usatîi presented his team of candidates for the parliamentary elections. He also presented 29 draft laws prepared for adoption by the future Parliament.

President’s Appeals

At the beginning of the electoral campaign, President Maia Sandu called on all electoral contestants to understand their responsibility toward citizens, act strictly in the national interest, respect the law and serve only the citizens of Moldova. She also urged voters not to get involved in electoral corruption schemes and to seek information from official sources.

Phone Call with the President of Poland

President Maia Sandu spoke by phone with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, who had begun his term on August 6, 2025. Sandu congratulated him on taking office and wished him success in carrying out his presidential mandate.

PAS Launches Its Campaign

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) launched its electoral campaign at an event in the square near the capital’s Opera and Ballet Theatre. PAS leader Igor Grosu said the party was entering a campaign at the end of which the country’s “correct direction” needed to be maintained.

Promo-LEX Report

Promo-LEX presented Report No. 2 of its Election Observation Mission for the September 28 parliamentary elections. The report covered the period from July 22 to August 27 and highlighted key electoral trends, the activities of potential electoral competitors and risks that could affect the fairness and transparency of the elections.

Andrei Năstase’s Statement

Independent parliamentary candidate Andrei Năstase said at the start of the campaign that he was running as he was — “free, honest and determined” — adding that this was the fairest way to do politics in a country where people no longer trusted political parties.

NOI Announcement

The political party NOI – New Historical Option announced that the Chișinău Court of Appeal had annulled the CEC decision refusing to register the party for the parliamentary elections.

“Alternativa” Bloc Launches Campaign

The “Alternativa” electoral bloc officially launched its campaign for the September 28 parliamentary elections, presenting a program focused on economic development, fair justice and modernization of the country. The bloc’s leaders and members conveyed a common message that Moldova needed a professional Parliament working for citizens rather than party interests.

PRN Appeal

The National Reunification Platform (PRN) issued an appeal to voters at the start of the electoral campaign. The document addressed the creation of the “Blocul Unirea Națiunii,” participation in the parliamentary elections and the bloc’s electoral program.

Audiovisual Council Appeal

The Audiovisual Council called on all audiovisual media providers, electoral contestants and their supporters, as well as information consumers, to contribute to a transparent, fair and equitable electoral campaign.

Prime Minister’s Announcement

Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that the list of individuals involved in Russia’s destabilization operation and the Russian Federation’s hybrid activities had been expanded. The Interinstitutional Supervisory Council added several foreign nationals and two Moldovan citizens — Dmitri Buimistru and Veaceslav Valico — to the list approved by the Council’s March 5, 2025 decision.

Letter to Donald J. Trump

Boris Foca, president of the Modern Democratic Party of Moldova, went to the U.S. Embassy in Moldova to personally deliver a letter addressed to President Donald J. Trump, in which he alleged abuses and pressure by the government against the political opposition.

ALDE Launches Campaign

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) began its electoral campaign. In a video posted on Facebook, party leader Arina Spătaru said that Moldova was “at a historic crossroads.”

Campaign Launches on Social Media

The National Moldovan Party entered the parliamentary campaign with a video filmed in front of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău. Independent candidate Olesea Stamate launched her campaign with a Facebook video, including footage filmed in front of the Supreme Court of Justice. Independent candidate Victoria Sanduța also launched her campaign on social media.

Ilan Șor’s Reaction

Ilan Șor, leader of the “Victory” Bloc, reacted after Canada imposed sanctions on the political bloc affiliated with him. He mocked Canada by calling it “the 51st U.S. state in transition,” suggesting that the sanctions reaffirmed the country’s “temporary sovereignty.”

MRM Announcement

Nicolai Grigorișin, former councillor and mayor of Bălți representing Our Party, and previously a candidate for the Change Party, joined the Respect Moldova Movement (MRM). The party announced his membership.

Adrian Băluțel’s Announcement

Adrian Băluțel announced that he was suspending his work as chief of staff to President Maia Sandu for the entire duration of the electoral campaign.

Vasile Costiuc’s Live Stream

Democracy at Home leader Vasile Costiuc explained, during a live broadcast outside the Presidential Administration, why his driving licence had been suspended. He claimed it was because he had fed Maia Sandu’s dog and brought two bones for Codruț as a protest against Moldovans allegedly no longer being allowed to sell home-raised pork.
