The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has issued a public warning about the growing number of phone and online fraud cases, which have caused many citizens to lose significant amounts of money, TRIBUNA reports.
The head of state stressed that scammers are using increasingly sophisticated methods to gain victims’ trust. “These thieves are well trained. They can sound convincing,” the president said. Maia Sandu noted that criminals pose as relatives, bank employees, investors, or police officers, and even use fake video materials generated with the help of artificial intelligence. “Only thieves ask for money, passwords, or promise quick profits over the phone or online,” she warned.
The president urged citizens to immediately end any conversation in which they are asked for money or banking data, not to share confidential information, and to verify the authenticity of calls by contacting institutions through their official numbers. “Do not talk to strangers who ask for money or your bank code. Hang up the phone,” she said.
