During his working visit to Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi held a series of meetings with Members of the European Parliament, TRIBUNA reports.
The Moldovan Foreign Minister met with European Parliament Vice‑Presidents Victor Negrescu and Nicolae Ștefănuță; with the Chairs of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence, and the European Democracy Shield — David McAllister, Marie‑Agnes Strack‑Zimmermann and Nathalie Loiseau; with the Co‑Chair of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly, Sergey Lagodinsky; as well as with MEPs Petras Auštrevičius, Dan Barna, Sven Mikser and Eugen Tomac.
Discussions focused on the Republic of Moldova’s priorities in the EU integration process, highlighting the continuation of reforms, the effective use of EU support, and the importance of deepening political and institutional cooperation.
Mihai Popșoi expressed appreciation for the European Parliament’s consistent support for Moldova’s European path and for efforts to strengthen the country’s resilience amid challenges generated by the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
“I thanked the Members of the European Parliament for their constant support — from backing reforms to their essential contribution to the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova. This support enables us to strengthen state institutions, develop the economy, and advance more rapidly in aligning with European standards,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
The discussions also welcomed the opening of the European Parliament Office in Chișinău in 2025, seen as a strong signal of closer ties. Mihai Popșoi emphasized that this presence reinforces the connection between Moldovan citizens and EU institutions and reflects a Republic of Moldova increasingly present in the European space.
For their part, MEPs praised Moldova’s progress and reaffirmed the European Parliament’s support, which in 2025 materialized in the largest EU assistance package granted to the country since independence. They also encouraged Moldovan authorities to maintain the pace of implementing the measures required for EU accession.
