President Maia Sandu met with the President of the Riigikogu of the Republic of Estonia, Lauri Hussar, the Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Daiga Mieriņa, and the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Juozas Olekas. According to the Presidential Administration, this is the first time that the heads of parliament from the three Baltic states have undertaken a joint official visit to the Republic of Moldova in this format — a strong signal of support for our country’s European path, TRIBUNA reports.
The Head of State highlighted the excellent relations with the three countries and their steadfast support for the Republic of Moldova. Discussions focused primarily on the process of accession to the European Union.
According to the Presidency, the experience of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania clearly demonstrates the benefits of European integration — strengthened democracy, accelerated economic development, higher living standards, and efficient, transparent public institutions. Economic data illustrate the success of their European trajectory: in Estonia, the average gross salary has increased more than fourfold and GDP per capita has grown 3.5 times; in Latvia, the average gross salary has risen nearly fivefold and GDP per capita has increased 2.5 times; and in Lithuania, the average gross salary has grown almost sevenfold while GDP per capita has increased fourfold.
The talks also addressed the regional security situation. President Maia Sandu expressed Moldova’s appreciation for the Baltic states’ solidarity with Ukraine. In this context, the parties exchanged views on ways to counter risks stemming from hybrid warfare, including cyberattacks, disinformation, and external interference targeting democratic processes.
