National measures adopted in the context of difficult weather conditions — following a Government meeting

On the morning of 27 January 2026, the National Crisis Management Centre (CNMC) convened an operational coordination meeting in response to the adverse weather conditions affecting the Republic of Moldova. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, together with the leadership of institutions responsible for crisis management.

Following the assessment of the operational situation and the information presented by the competent authorities, the following nationwide measures were adopted:

Key Measures

  • The relevant institutions — the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Ministry of Energy — have activated crisis protocols and will intervene as a priority to:
    • ease road traffic,
    • maintain circulation on national and regional routes,
    • combat ice formation,
    • restore electricity supply in affected localities.
  • Throughout this week, the workday and school hours will begin at 09:00, a measure introduced to reduce risks associated with travel in difficult road conditions.
  • The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) and the National Army will provide support to local public authorities, upon request, in the most affected or dangerous areas, including ensuring access to critical infrastructure and protecting the population.

Weather and Road Conditions

Across the country, precipitation in the form of rain and fog, combined with temperatures between –2°C and +3°C, has led to widespread ice formation on road surfaces. Traffic is difficult on several national routes, including M1, M2, M3, M5, R2, and R3.

Interventions are ongoing on all affected segments, with approximately 135 units of machinery and 195 workers deployed. Over the past 12 hours, around 1,460 tonnes of anti-skid material have been spread to maintain road usability and reduce risks for road users.

Electricity Supply Situation

As of 06:45, the distribution operator Premier Energy Distribution (Centre–South region) reported partial outages in 12 localities, affecting approximately 4,457 users, with 363 notifications received. The majority of affected consumers — around 3,428 — are located in Criuleni district (Molovata, Rîșcova, Ohrincea, Ștețcani, Oxentea, Miclești, Bolohan, Mărcăuți).

Additionally, the operator RED-Nord (North region) reported, at 05:00, unplanned outages lasting more than three minutes, affecting approximately 16,408 users. Of these, 9,181 consumers experienced disconnections on 26 January, between 18:00 and 20:00. Repair works are ongoing.

Emergency Interventions

IGSU teams have intervened in multiple districts to:

  • unblock vehicles, including ambulances,
  • support medical crews,
  • respond to road accidents caused by icy conditions.

Enhanced forces and equipment are mobilized nationwide, ready to intervene at the request of local authorities.
