President Maia Sandu, referring to her recent statement in an interview with British journalists, said that it was not the first time she had stated she would vote for the unification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania in a potential referendum, TRIBUNA reports.
“What I want most for the Republic of Moldova is for us to live in peace and safety and to remain part of the free world. These are the most important things, especially given the increasingly difficult regional and global context,” she said.
The President noted that opinion polls show that unification with Romania is not supported by the majority of citizens, and that the Republic of Moldova is a democratic state in which the majority decides.
Maia Sandu also stated that she has not discussed the issue of unification with European officials.
