Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marks Diplomat’s Day. Mihai Popșoi: “Diplomacy is more than a profession”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the official ceremony dedicated to Diplomat’s Day, attended by the institution’s leadership, diplomats, and civil servants from Moldova’s diplomatic service, TRIBUNA reports.

The event opened with a presentation of the main diplomatic achievements of 2025, offering a retrospective of a year marked by intensive work, challenges, and tangible results — both in cooperation with external partners and in serving the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

In his address, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional capacities, continuing active efforts to attract new partnerships that support the country’s economic development, and increasing Moldova’s international visibility. He also highlighted the dedication and professionalism of the entire diplomatic corps:

“Diplomat’s Day is an opportunity to congratulate one another and pay tribute to all those who contribute daily to promoting the interests of the Republic of Moldova abroad. Diplomacy is more than a profession — it is a vocation. It relies on the experience and professionalism of career diplomats, as well as on the energy and modern vision of the younger generation. Thanks to the work and dedication of our diplomats, the Republic of Moldova is more resilient today,” Popșoi stated.

During the ceremony, presidential decrees were announced granting the highest diplomatic ranks — Ambassador and Minister Plenipotentiary — along with ministerial orders awarding other diplomatic ranks to staff from the central office, diplomatic missions, and consular posts.

The honorary title “Diplomat of the Year 2025” was awarded to Moldova’s Ambassador to the French Republic, Corina Călugăru, for her outstanding contribution to promoting the country’s interests abroad and her demonstrated professionalism. The honorary “Diplomat of the Month” certificates for 2025 were presented to MFA employees who distinguished themselves through their involvement and results in various areas of foreign activity.

As tradition dictates, the ceremony included the oath of office taken by newly appointed civil servants, marking the beginning of their public service careers and their commitment to the state and its citizens.

A special moment of the event was the announcement that the MFA Conference Hall will be named the “Nicolae Țâu Hall,” in recognition of the contribution of Moldova’s first Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicolae Țâu, to the institutional strengthening of the country’s diplomacy.

On this occasion, Nicolae Țâu expressed his gratitude and highlighted the mission of diplomats in supporting and defending Moldova’s interests worldwide: “Diplomacy is a science and an art — not an easy one. Every diplomat carries the responsibility of promoting national interests. You deserve recognition for this work. I congratulate you on Diplomat’s Day and wish you success!”.
