President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, delivered a message last evening on the occasion of the National Culture Day, marked on 15 January, highlighting the role of culture as a pillar of cohesion, memory, and freedom.
“Culture has always been the bond that keeps our society united. Culture is the memory that does not allow us to forget who we are and where we come from,” the Head of State said.
President Maia Sandu also emphasized that, in difficult moments of history, culture has served as a form of resistance: “We, the Moldovans, have managed to preserve our mother tongue and culture despite geopolitical storms. We preserved them because they were not mere traditions passed on by inertia, but authentic forms of resistance.”
The Head of State thanked all those working in the cultural field — from artists and writers to museum specialists and librarians — highlighting their role in community life: “You are the ones who bring culture into our homes, no matter where we are.”
On the occasion of the National Culture Day, the President of the Republic of Moldova awarded distinctions to several cultural figures for their outstanding achievements in creative activity.
