Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova, Dong Zhihua. The discussions focused on the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for deepening cooperation, with emphasis on political and diplomatic dialogue — including preparations for the next round of interministerial political consultations — as well as on expanding economic and sectoral cooperation, TRIBUNA reports.
“We aim to advance our relations with the People’s Republic of China through an open, results‑oriented dialogue and to fully harness the cooperation potential for the benefit of citizens in both countries,” stated Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi.
The two sides highlighted opportunities to increase Moldovan exports to the Chinese market, particularly wine and agri‑food products, as well as interest in attracting investment and strengthening cooperation in areas such as energy efficiency, agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
On 30 January 2026, the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China will mark 34 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
At the end of the meeting, the head of Moldova’s diplomacy welcomed the start of the ambassador’s mandate and reaffirmed the authorities’ openness to continuing dialogue and deepening the friendly and cooperative relations with the People’s Republic of China.
