Official: Average consumer prices have increased by 6.8% over the past year

The average annual inflation rate — representing the average increase in consumer prices in 2025 compared to the previous year — amounted to 7.8% (compared to 4.7% recorded in 2024), TRIBUNA reports.

The National Bureau of Statistics also announced that average consumer prices in December 2025 compared to December 2024 (over the past 12 months) increased by 6.8%, continuing a downward trend since June 2025 and reaching in the reference month the lowest level recorded throughout the year. Annually, average prices for food products increased by 5.6%, for non‑food goods by 2.3%, and for services provided to the population by 14.8%.

In December 2025 compared to November 2025, average consumer prices rose by approximately 0.9%, driven by:

  • a decrease in average prices for food products by about 0.1% and for non‑food goods by about 0.2%, reducing overall consumer prices by nearly 0.1%;
  • an increase in prices for services provided to the population by around 3.5%, raising overall consumer prices by 1.0%.

More pronounced price decreases among food products were recorded for vegetables (–1.8%) and fruits (–1.0%).

At the same time, in December 2025 more significant price increases were noted for eggs (+2.8%), vegetable oil, milk and dairy products (+0.4%).

Among non‑food goods, the most notable price reductions were recorded for fuel and petroleum products (–2.0%), including diesel (–6.5%) and petrol (–2.1%).

For services provided to the population, average prices in December 2025 compared to November 2025 increased by 3.5%, mainly due to higher tariffs for electricity supply (+24.9%). It is worth noting that government compensations for household electricity consumption (reflected in bills) during February–November 2025 reduced actual payments by about one quarter, lowering the overall consumer price level by approximately 0.9% by the end of that period. Since these compensations were discontinued starting 1 December 2025, the Consumer Price Index now reflects the full regulated tariffs set by ANRE.

Additionally, during the reporting period, average prices in the public catering sector increased by 0.2%, while prices for passenger transport services decreased by about 0.4% (including air transport services — by 1.8%).
