Alexandru Munteanu praised Romania’s active role in supporting the Republic of Moldova’s European path

The main results of this year’s bilateral cooperation and the shared priorities for the upcoming period were discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana‑Silvia Țoiu, who is in Chișinău to participate in the Annual Meeting of the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of the Republic of Moldova abroad, TRIBUNA reports.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu expressed his gratitude for Romania’s consistent support, highlighting achievements in key areas such as energy, education, economy, infrastructure, health, and culture.

In 2025, Romania reaffirmed its status as the Republic of Moldova’s main trade and investment partner. Bilateral trade exceeded 3 billion euros, while Romanian investments in the Republic of Moldova amount to approximately 35 million euros.

The Vulcănești–Chișinău energy independence line, which connects the Republic of Moldova to Romania’s energy system, is expected to become operational soon. Romania reacted promptly and in solidarity, as it has on previous occasions, helping Moldova maintain the stability of its national electricity system following intensified Russian attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure. Progress was also noted on the construction of the Ungheni–Ungheni Bridge, designed to improve connectivity between the Republic of Moldova and Romania and facilitate Moldova’s integration into the European transport network.

The officials discussed cooperation priorities for the next period, with a focus on continuing strategic projects and developing new joint initiatives for the benefit of citizens on both sides of the Prut.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu also praised Romania’s active role in supporting the Republic of Moldova’s European path, including through technical and financial assistance.

“The relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania is strategic, profound, and irreversible. We continue to rely on Romania’s support and solidarity in Moldova’s European integration process,” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized.
