Foreign Ministry Holds Talks with Turkish MPs on the Situation in Gagauzia

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Carolina Perebinos met with a parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Türkiye led by Kürşad Zorlu, Vice President of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), TRIBUNA reports.

The discussions focused on the dynamics of Moldovan-Turkish relations and prospects for deepening cooperation in areas of common interest. The State Secretary praised Türkiye’s continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, as well as for assistance projects implemented in the country with the support of the Turkish Government.

An important topic of the meeting was the situation in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Carolina Perebinos highlighted the role of Gagauzia in relations between Moldova and Türkiye and reiterated Chisinau’s openness to maintaining constructive dialogue with Comrat within the constitutional framework of the Republic of Moldova.

For his part, Kürşad Zorlu reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Moldova’s stability and development, noting the relevance of Gagauzia’s autonomy in the context of bilateral dialogue. The parties stressed the need to maintain regional stability and ensure that electoral processes are conducted freely and transparently, without external interference.

The interlocutors also discussed cooperation in education, including the operationalization of the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Moldovan-Turkish College in Comrat, as well as the contribution of projects implemented by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) to Moldova’s development.

On the economic front, the officials welcomed the positive dynamics of trade and discussed ways to capitalize on the existing potential for expanding economic and investment cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reiterated their readiness to maintain regular dialogue and continue strengthening the Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Türkiye.
