The working visit of Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu to the United States continued with bilateral meetings with several officials, TRIBUNA reports.
In the U.S. Congress, the head of the legislature met with Mike Lawler (R-NY), Chairman of the Moldova Friendship Group in the House of Representatives. Igor Grosu thanked the American official for the support provided to Moldova.
“An example is the financing of the Gutinaș–Strășeni power line, a strategic project that will further reduce our energy dependence on the East,” added the Speaker of Parliament.
The agenda of the visit also included discussions at the White House. Igor Grosu met with Andy Baker, Deputy National Security Advisor to the President, Charles McLaughlin, Senior Director for Europe and Russia at the National Security Council, and Sarah Beebe, Director for Europe at the NSC. During the talks, Grosu reiterated that in recent years the government’s top priority has been maintaining peace and resilience.
He also outlined the authorities’ efforts to build energy independence, strengthen defense capacities, and combat disinformation.
“The continuous support of partners, such as the United States, in Moldova’s path toward a genuine democracy is very important,” emphasized Igor Grosu.
Between December 2–10, the Speaker of Parliament is on a working visit to the United States. The agenda includes meetings with officials as well as with Moldovans living in Washington, Chicago, and North Carolina.
