President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today received at the Presidential Administration a delegation from the Appropriations Committee of the US House of Representatives — the committee responsible for decisions on the US federal budget, including foreign assistance, TRIBUNA reports.
The delegation was led by Committee Chairman, Republican Congressman Tom Cole, and Ranking Member, Democratic Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. The delegation also included Republican Congressmen Steve Womack, Mark Alford and Dave Joyce, as well as Democratic Congressman Glenn Ivey. The bipartisan composition of the delegation reflects the support Moldova enjoys from both parties in the US Congress.
The discussions focused on the security situation in the region, strengthening Moldova’s resilience against hybrid threats, the country’s European path, as well as expanding bilateral economic and energy cooperation.
The President thanked members of Congress for their continued support for the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that US assistance has directly contributed to the country’s energy security, infrastructure modernization and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
One example is the Strășeni–Gutinaș high-voltage power line, fully financed by the US Government.
The delegation members reaffirmed Congress’s interest in the Republic of Moldova and their readiness to continue supporting the country’s efforts to strengthen its resilience and advance its path toward European Union accession.
The visit marked the fifth meeting between President Maia Sandu and US congressional delegations since the beginning of the year and reflects the strong, bipartisan nature of the partnership between Chisinau and Washington.
