Head of Government: “We rely on cooperation with local administration for the implementation of these projects”

The modernization of the Republic of Moldova, the changes achieved with European support that have raised living standards in the localities of Ungheni, as well as the necessary actions in the coming period to advance on the path of EU accession and bring improvements to citizens’ daily lives, were discussed at the meeting of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu with mayors and representatives of decentralized public services in the district, TRIBUNA reports.

During the discussions, the Prime Minister spoke about the complex reform agenda required for development and emphasized that only through close cooperation can Moldova move forward, improve local public services, and be prepared more quickly for accession.

“Ungheni is a district in full development, with numerous infrastructure projects underway — from roads and street lighting to health and education services, as well as successful economic initiatives. We rely on cooperation with the local administration for the implementation of these projects, and also for increasing the capacity to absorb funds and execute projects,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

In recent years, through the “European Village” and “European Village Express” programs, 41 projects have been implemented in Ungheni. Already built are 40 km of water pipelines, 8 water towers, 1 water reservoir, 5.7 km of sewerage, 1 wastewater pumping station, and 1 treatment plant. Another 26 projects worth 119 million lei will be carried out under the “European Village 2” program. Roads and bridges have also been built and repaired, hospitals and health centers equipped, kindergartens and schools modernized.

In dialogue with the Prime Minister, mayors highlighted several priority projects for the future, including the need to reconstruct the treatment plant in Ungheni municipality, in order to avoid pollution of the Prut River. They also discussed ways to diversify water supply sources, including possible cross-border projects. In addition, several local roads require repair; in this context, the unprecedented volume of the Road Fund was mentioned: for 2025 the allocated budget was initially 1.7 billion lei, to which the Government added another 1 billion lei.

The Head of the Executive, Alexandru Munteanu, assured that the Government will continue investments in infrastructure and modernization of public services. “I urge you to come with ideas, proposals, innovative projects. We will support serious, well-prepared projects, especially because in the pre-accession period we will receive funds that must be spent conscientiously,” stressed the Prime Minister.

Ungheni district comprises 33 mayoralties with 12 villages, 19 communes, and 2 towns — Ungheni and Cornești. The total population exceeds 75,000 inhabitants, of whom more than 26,000 live in the town of Ungheni.
