A group of Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is participating in a conference dedicated to developing parliamentary integrity standards. The event is organized by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and is taking place on November 24–25 in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia, TRIBUNA reports.
The conference, entitled “Developing Parliamentary Integrity Standards: Focus on the EU Eastern Partnership and OSCE Regional Perspectives,” brings together MPs and public officials from the parliaments of Armenia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine. The Moldovan delegation includes MPs Vasile Grădinaru, Igor Chiriac, Alexandr Berlinschii, Igor Talmazan, and Artemie Cătănoi, members of the Legal Committee for Appointments and Immunities and of the national delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
The event addresses topics such as the responsibility of parliaments in maintaining ethics and integrity; the contribution of codes of conduct to ensuring parliamentary integrity and public trust; and the identification, prevention, and management of conflicts of interest in parliamentary activity.
On the sidelines of the conference, MP Vasile Grădinaru delivered a speech emphasizing that MPs exercise their mandate in the service of the people and that their activity must reflect dignity, exemplary conduct, and ethics. He also referred to two important initiatives aimed at ensuring MPs’ integrity: initiatives concerning the status, conduct, and ethics of MPs, and the organization and functioning of Parliament.
ODIHR supports the legislative institutions of the Republic of Moldova, Armenia, and Ukraine in drafting codes of conduct for MPs. This support includes providing legal opinions, facilitating dialogue among parliamentary political parties, and presenting analyses and best practices from the OSCE region to relevant parliamentary committees.
